Star 0 Jeanfield Swifts 2.
10 man Star were second best yesterday, going down to a goal in each half from an impressive Swifts side. Manager Stevie McLeish had to reshuffle his back 4 with full backs Scott Swaney and Mikey Noble away on holiday and Dale Richardson unavailable due to whiplash injuries sustained in a traffic accident. Craig Meikle was also out with a niggling calf injury, so Sean Lally moved into central defence with Jack Wright and Kenny O’Brien deployed as full-backs.
There were few chances at either end before the visitors took the lead through a deflected drive in the 36th minute, and our hopes took a further dent just before the break when Gary Hamilton was sent off after receiving his second yellow card of the afternoon following a hefty challenge. David Bonnar and Andrew Sinclair were brought on at half time for their competitive debuts, but despite retaining the bulk of possession in the second half we failed to create many clear openings and the points were sealed with a breakaway goal in the 68th minute after Lee Currie was caught in possession on the half way line. So all in all an afternoon to forget, but we move on now and look forward to another tough fixture on Wednesday night (17th August) when we visit Musselburgh Athletic (6.45 pm kick off).
